The raised road markers are road studs which are fixed on the ground to delineate the lanes, and they can be used to divide the opposite lanes, lanes of the same direction, and they can also used to mark the dangerous sections like curves, ramps, narrow road. There are several shapes of the raised markers.
The first type is the most ordinary road markers, which is not light-reflecting.
The second type is light-reflecting, which has one side or double-side reflectors.
If the raised road markers and the marked lines are used together, the road markers which can give out light automatically and directional reflective type should be chosen, and the color of the markers should be the same with that of the marked lines (yellow or white), and the intervals should be 6 to 15 meters, and the markers are generally set between the marked lines. The road markers should be set in one side of the marked line, and the intervals should be equal to that of the lane-dividing lines.
Countries of Europe and America have some special consideration on the using of the raised road markers. The visibility of the raised road marker is better than that of the ordinary marking paint, and the visibility is decided by the angle between the driver and the road markers. Therefore, the raised road marker can be seen further and it has good reflective effect. Its advantageous can be found especially in bad weather conditions like foggy or rainy days. As the supplement and stress of the marked lines, the reflective road marker is usually set in some dangerous sections like long straight road, where drivers is easy to feel tired, curved sections, the triangle area of the entrance & exit ramp of the interchange. Sometimes the raised road markers will be paint to the warning colors like red and yellow in dangerous sites to make them easy to be seen.
