The solar road studs whose service time can be 5 year are out of service after one year working in Haikou.
In the second half of the year of 2005, Haikou has introduced the solar road studs, which were installed in the intersections of South Nankun Road, Fengxaing Road, and Qiuhai Avenue. They like twinkle stars at night and they play the role of traffic guidance. However, after their work for one year, they have destroyed greatly.
According to the expert, the working principle of the solar road stud absorbs solar energy in the daytime, and transforms the solar energy into electrical energy, and then the electrical energy inside the battery can be transformed into light, which can delineate the way and guide the sight of the drivers. Compared with the ordinary road studs, the solar road studs have two feathers: one is strong bright, which is over ten times of that of the ordinary ones; the other is giving out light automatically, which can not only avoid the interference of the rain or fog, but have long visual distance.
The Traffic Management Bureau of Haikou introduced that the current situation of the solar road studs are caused by two reasons: one is artificial crush, and the other is the dust on the solar panel influences the energy absorbing of the solar road stud.

However, the construction workers said that the dust is not the main reason of the destroying of the solar road studs, for the brushing of water and vibration of the ground made the solar road studs can clean the dust by their own. And the overload and over speed have done great damage to the bases of the solar road studs.
